Never going to whinge about exercise again

Met Denis at the gym

Denis is a man that goes to my Gym – I have seen him and we say good morning to each other as we pass, even saw him at the markets one day – he popped into our stand to say hi.  That is as normal as it gets mostly, but… this morning was a little different we were both setting up and getting our bikes set up at Rpm and we actually had a convo WOW! What an amazing man 74 years old or I should say young.

Our conversation started with a discussion about his boxing and how he has been booked to have 2 fights in Melbourne next month (I think he said). He went on to say that he is the oldest registered boxer in Australia WOW again. It pays in life to ask questions – so I asked has he been boxing all his life – no only the last 12 or so years. Was diagnosed with some cancer and the medicos beat it (allegedly an easy one to get rid of he said). The gym thing began.

He started with the bag out the back of the gym, then the pads and from there he moved into boxing professionally. This is all starting around 60 years old  – that is my age – I am going to do it again WOW. I am never whinging again – we had a chat about my emphysema and how often I get to the gym he seemed genuinely interested and impressed that I was making an effort. Coming from him I am absolutely in awe. I said I make it 3 times a week – he say mate you have to do 5 – I know he is correct.

Anyway had a great RPM Session with Ashley and on the way out to the car he asked about my Father and Brother who died a slow and horrible death from this disease, he put his hand on my shoulder at his car, which we came to first and said, “you have to sneak in at least one more day at the gym” with a great smile and we bid each other a great day.

I am never whinging again about exercise, what an inspiration and an amazing man

Cheers Morgs
